AUSTRALIAN
TROPHIES AND HUNTING AREAS
I have arrangements with first class
operations in Australia to provide hunts for: Buffalo, Banteng, Hog Deer,
Axis, Sambar, North Island (Moluccan) Rusa, Javan Rusa, Fallow, Boar and
Blackbuck antelope. Again, as in New Zealand, accommodations are first
class.

Buffalo and
Banteng Hunts
Buffalo and Banteng hunts are conducted
in the far north (Northern Territory) of Australia. The hunting area can
be accessed by road from Darwin eliminating expensive air charters. The
area also provides hunting for Sambar, Axis, Hog and Rusa deer.

Fallow, Sambar,
Rusa and Axis Hunts
These species can also be hunted on
a large game estate in South Australia. The area is high fenced but is
so extensive that the hunt can be almost classed as free range. In addition
to the above species Red Stag and Elk are also available in this area.
Australia is a vast land and distances
are great. Hunters venturing to Australia in search of trophies, should
leave themselves plenty of time to cover these distances and also see the
wide variety of landscapes.
Entry into Australia is through a
number of international airports – Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane being
the main ones.
Australia has a population of over
25 million, but as most are centered close to the sea on the southern and
eastern coasts, vast areas of “outback” wilderness exist in a country the
same size as the lower 48 states of the USA.
US citizens require a Visa for entry
into Australia. Hunters traveling on other passports should enquire regarding
individual Visa requirements when they book airline tickets.
Firearm permits are required to carry
rifles and other firearms into Australia. These must be obtained prior
to arrival and require some weeks to process, so be sure to give yourself
plenty of time to arrange these permits.

NEW CALEDONIA
New Caledonia Rusa
Stag Hunts
I operate my own outfit in New Caledonia,
working out of a small local village hotel approximately 45 minutes from
the main airport. Accommodations are in air - conditioned bungalows with
private facilities, situated in the hotel grounds.
Meals are taken in the hotel and
as New Caledonia has a strong French colonial background, the blend of
South Pacific seafood and French cooking is a hunter’s treat.
Hunting of these, world class, Rusa
Stags is generally done between mid July and the end of August, this being
the rut period. It is not unusual for a hunter to see over a hundred deer
during a day and often will view several trophy stags. These hunts are
for entirely free ranging deer with no high fences involved.
The world record for Rusa Stag has
been broken several times in the past few years, in New Caledonia, this
is a chance to take a new record.
Hunting is done by walking, spotting
and stalking. As the terrain is gentle rolling hills or coastal flat areas,
the physical requirements are not high.
The hunt is conducted during the
“winter” period, but as New Caledonia is a tropical island, winter is pleasant
– mid 70’s. Tee shirts and short pants are the norm for hunting here.
As the prime hunting period for
Rusa is limited, I advise any hunter contemplating this the “best deer
hunt in the world” to make an early booking. You will not be disappointed!
